Here is a wave practice allowing for continuous repetition for combination play and finishing.  This practice encourages players to support a forward pass, create a 3v2 overload and score.

There are many aspects of this practice which are match realsitic, which make it enjoyable for players whilst giving them valubale time to develop their skills.

THE SET UP

Two goals approximately 60m apart with 2 mannequins on the half way line and a small central box.

Attackers in YELLOW are split, 1 on each mannequin the rest, in pairs at either end of the pitch next to the goals.  Two sets of defenders, shown here in BLUE/RED and WHITE defend each goal which has a goalkeeper. A target player is placed in the central box, this could be the coach.

The practice start by the goalkeeper ditributing the ball to the attackers nearest his goal, the defenders in WHITE are not active.  The attacker then plays the ball to the wide player on the mannequin who attacks the goal, the pair of attackers must support quickly to create a 3v2 situation.

The defenders score a point by successfully winning possession and playing to the target man (RED) or coach in the central grid.

COACHING POINTS

Here are some points you may want to consider....

Players attitude towards shooting, are they passing when they can shoot?

Unselfish runs, can you effect the defenders and create space for the player on the ball?

Changing the angle of  approach. Defenders like straight lines, encourage the man in possession as well as the runners to "Change the angle", as above.  Underlaps and overlaps will cause havoc for the defending pair
